Believed to have been invented by the Celts, chainmail dates back to Antiquity and was first used by the Romans. Proving it’s effectiveness in battle against swords, spears, and axes, chainmail continued into the Middle Ages where it enjoyed a long run. Comprised of a series of small metal rings riveted together, this type of armor was sometimes constructed from brass or iron, but most commonly, from steel. Although plate armor took over in the later centuries, knights still wore chainmail often underneath for added joint protection. While chainmail originated long ago, it’s legacy lives on with Armor Venue’s line of medieval chainmail. Featuring a wide selection of hauberks, shirts, leg armor, coifs, and more, you can ensure maximum protection for your next battle.
