Description
All natural buffalo horn is carefully hand-carved to shape this traditional drinking vessel. Each horn varies in size, measuring between 20 and 23 inches long, with no two ever exactly alike. These horns typically hold between 1100 ml and 1400 ml of liquid,be it water, wine, beer, or ale. The outer surface is polished smooth, revealing the horn’s natural colors, which range from deep black to creamy white, reflecting the unique growth patterns of the buffalo.
Included is a sturdy leather frog, designed to fasten the horn securely to a belt, much like warriors and travelers of old would have done. Drinking horns have a long history across many cultures, serving both ceremonial and everyday purposes. One interesting tradition is that the horn cannot be set down on a table until it is emptied, encouraging the drinker to finish their beverage in one go.
Before using, it’s important to clean the horn thoroughly. Use a gentle detergent and periodically rub the exterior with vegetable oil to prevent it from drying out. Occasionally applying beeswax to the inside will help protect against cracking and preserve the horn’s interior.
