Description
APOC Wasteland Gladius designed by Gus Trim
In the spirit of the Roman legionaries who once marched into uncharted territories, the Wasteland Gladius is a blade forged for survival in hostile lands. Like those centurions who relied on their swords as much as their courage, this weapon is meant to be a steadfast companion when facing unknown dangers at the edge of the world.
The design takes inspiration from the classic Roman gladius, particularly the larger variants with a distinctive “wasp-waist” or leaf-shaped blade. Measuring 21 3/8 inches along the cutting edge, the blade’s curvature offers a variety of angles suited for different tasks encountered in the wild. The blade widens from 1 3/8 inches near the hilt to 2 inches at the belly, creating a strong chopping surface while maintaining a sharp point for thrusting. This combination allows the wielder to both cut and pierce effectively, depending on the need.
The handle, just over 9 ½ inches long, is designed for a secure grip whether wielded with one hand or two, lending versatility to the sword’s use. The pommel is solid and shaped to serve as a blunt instrument,a skull cracker or glass breaker when the situation demands. This practical feature reflects the harsh realities of survival where every part of your weapon must pull double duty.
Accompanying the sword is a lightweight black fiberglass sheath mounted on a Molle-compatible kydex platform. This setup allows the sword to be attached securely to belts or packs in multiple carry positions, offering quick access and stable retention. The platform includes four slots, each about 1 3/8 inches long and 1/8 inch wide, for versatile mounting options. A notch on the handle aligns with the platform to allow stealthy unsheathing and secure locking, even when the sword is carried inverted.
When ammunition runs dry and shorter blades fall short, a sword like the Wasteland Gladius becomes more than a weapon,it’s a lifeline. Its design honors the practical needs of a warrior caught in desperate times, carrying forward the legacy of blades that have shaped history on the frontier of civilization.
