Description
The APOC Fallout Series introduces a collection of knives and survival tools shaped by the hand of Jason Breeden. Crafted from robust 1075 and D2 steels, these blades bear a distinctive two-tone finish that speaks to both form and function. The handles combine pierced black canvas Micarta with vibrant APOC Red G10 liners, materials chosen not only for their durability but for providing a confident, secure grip. Each piece is built with full tang construction, ensuring strength and balance for demanding tasks. This series expands the range of survival implements, from compact tools to larger blades, designed to meet the challenges of the wilderness.
Among these implements, the Breeden Derecho stands out as a hybrid between sword and machete. Its 18 ¼ inch blade, forged from 1075 carbon steel with a thickness of 5.5mm at the guard tapering to 4mm at the tip, delivers a balance of cutting power and precision. Weighing just under 2 pounds, this blade allows for both one-handed and two-handed wielding, offering versatility in combat and survival scenarios. The blade’s reinforced tip design is intended to withstand thrusting into dense materials without compromising structural integrity.
The handle is fashioned from pierced black canvas Micarta slabs layered over red G10 liners, a nod to the traditional Japanese tsuka-ito wrapping and samegawa (rayskin) underlayer seen on katanas. This combination provides a tactile grip that remains steady even in wet or slippery conditions. The blade’s spine and liners are ground smooth to prevent discomfort during prolonged use. A lanyard hole is integrated into the handle design, allowing for added security when carrying or wielding the Derecho. The accompanying scabbard features a Molle-compatible Kydex throat and a fiberglass core, designed for secure attachment and ease of access in the field.
The Fallout Series merges the refined geometry of Japanese blades with the rugged practicality demanded by survival tools. The two-tone blade finish breaks from APOC’s usual monochrome styling, creating a striking visual presence while maintaining battlefield utility. Like a traditional daisho pairing, the series’ blades and their sheaths are designed to complement one another, allowing users to carry and deploy combinations suited to different tasks. The Breeden Derecho is a testament to this blend of cultural inspiration and modern survival needs.
