Description
This drinking horn is carved from a single piece of natural bovine horn, shaped and polished to reveal its unique character. The rim is adorned with a brass band, hand-etched with a traditional Celtic weave pattern, a nod to the artistry of the ancient craftsmen. At the tip, a brass crocodile figure is carefully cast and attached, serving as both decoration and a reminder of the animal world’s influence on Viking and medieval symbolism. Inside and out, the horn has been polished smooth, then sealed with a food-safe coating to ensure it can be used safely for drinking mead, ale, or other beverages.
To display the horn when not in use, an iron stand accompanies it, forged from twisted steel. This simple yet sturdy rack holds the horn at an angle, echoing the rugged aesthetics of Viking smiths and warriors. Such a setup would have been a prized possession in a hall, ready for feasts and celebrations marking significant life events , a fitting gift for a young person embarking on their own journey or for a wedding feast.
Care for your horn by washing it gently with mild detergent. To preserve its natural luster and prevent drying, rub the exterior with vegetable oil. Periodically, coat the inside with beeswax to keep the horn from cracking and maintain its integrity over time. Each horn bears its own natural imperfections, reflecting the organic origins and the hands of the smith who shaped it.
