Description

People have long crafted drinking horns from natural animal horns, shaping them into functional vessels or decorative objects. These horns come directly from the Bubalus bubalis, or water buffalo, and each one carries the marks of its life, scratches, gouges, and weathered patches where the animal rubbed against trees or rocks. These natural blemishes speak to the horn’s authenticity and history, making each piece truly one of a kind.

The horns have been carefully hand-polished to bring out a subtle shine on the smoother surfaces while preserving the rugged character of the weathered areas. Because these are natural horns, their shapes and colors vary, with some darker or lighter patches, curves, and twists unique to each animal.

To keep a drinking horn in good condition, it is traditional to coat the inside with beeswax. This seals the horn, making it safe for liquids and helping to prevent it from drying out or cracking. To do this, you melt beeswax, pour it inside the horn, allow it to cool and harden, then remove the excess. Regular cleaning with a gentle detergent and occasional rubbing with vegetable oil will also maintain the horn’s durability and appearance.

Each horn comes with a simple wooden stand, allowing it to be displayed as a striking accent piece when not in use. Whether resting on a shelf or filled with mead during a feast, these horns carry a tangible connection to centuries of craftsmanship and tradition.
