Description
This spear head is forged from Damascus steel, fashioned into the traditional triangular blade shape favored by Viking warriors. Crafted by folding layers of 1095 high-carbon steel and 15N20 nickel steel together some 280 to 350 times, the blade bears the distinctive swirling patterns characteristic of Damascus steel. The full-size spearhead measures 11.25 inches overall, with a double-edged blade stretching 6.9 inches, sharpened along both edges for piercing and thrusting. The blade tapers from a thickness of 7.6 mm down to about 2 mm at the tip, balancing strength and penetration.
The socket, or shaft mounting, extends 4.25 inches with an opening diameter of 0.99 inches, designed to fit snugly onto a wooden spear shaft of your choosing. A pre-drilled hole near the base of the socket allows for secure attachment with a rivet or pin, ensuring the spear head stays firmly in place during use. The piece is treated with a light coating of oil to guard against rust; periodic application of mineral oil will help preserve the steel’s integrity and appearance.
While the mounting shaft is not included, a suitable hardwood shaft can be sourced and shaped to fit, completing the assembly of a historically inspired Viking spear. Such weapons were prized for their reach and versatility on the battlefield, serving both foot soldiers and mounted warriors alike.
