Description

Circa 12th Century
Prince Tancred, or Tancrède de Hauteville as chronicled by the French, was a Norman noble from Southern Italy who took up the cross in the First Crusade of 1096. A hardened fighter, he earned his place through fierce battles and was named Prince of Galilee after Jerusalem fell. This sword is modeled after the kind of weapon Tancred might have wielded, embodying his rank and the warrior ethos of the Crusader knights.

The pommel bears the red Nurit flower, a regional emblem tied to Galilee, while the opposite side displays the crusader cross,an insignia Tancred carried to declare his faith and loyalty during the campaigns. The grip is made from solid hardwood and wrapped in stitched leather, crafted to give a firm, comfortable hold even in the heat of combat. Brass fittings, aged to resemble those of the 12th century, cap the handle, reflecting the metalwork familiar to armorers of the time. The blade measures about 2 inches across and features a deep fuller running nearly its full length,a practical design to lighten the blade without weakening it, allowing for quick, precise strikes favored by knights.

The accompanying scabbard is fashioned from brown suede and stitched in a manner authentic to the period, complete with a long leather belt for carrying at the hip.

Fun fact: Prince Tancred was known not only for his skill with the sword but also for his clever use of cavalry tactics, often leading mounted charges that turned the tide of battle. His sword was more than a weapon; it was a symbol of his leadership and noble standing on the battlefield.
