Circa 1480
For over four centuries, the borders of Spain shifted under the influence of the Moors, whose presence shaped much of the region’s culture and craft. This sword is a testament to that enduring exchange, where Islamic design elements met Iberian martial needs. Though gunpowder weapons were beginning to appear on the battlefield, swords like this one remained vital for close-quarters fighting. The blade and guard are forged from steel, fashioned to deliver broad, cutting blows that could cleave through armor and flesh alike. The wooden grip, wrapped securely with leather cord, offers the wielder a firm grasp, essential in the heat of combat. Its balance is no accident, each inch weighed and adjusted by the smith to ensure the sword moves swiftly and naturally, despite its length. Accompanied by a scabbard typical of the late 15th century, this weapon reflects the practical elegance favored by warriors of the time.
