Description
A Kirpan is a traditional Sikh knife, carried as a sacred article of faith following the commandment given by Guru Gobind Singh in 1699. As one of the five Ks, the Kirpan embodies the Sikh duty to uphold justice and protect the weak, reflecting the ideal of the Saint Soldier, one who balances mercy, courage, and honor in equal measure.
This Kirpan is forged from 1065 high carbon steel, a material prized for its toughness and capacity to hold a keen edge through countless trials. The blade is forged with a full profile tang, ensuring the knife’s strength and resilience during use. The handle scales are carefully finished and polished brass, providing a solid grip while honoring traditional craftsmanship. The bolsters bear engravings of the Sikh religious symbol and the sacred “Ik Onkar,” signifying the unity of the Creator and the divine presence in all things.
Accompanying the blade is a wooden sheath, wrapped in red leather and fitted with a brass tip. This sheath not only protects the blade but also carries cultural weight, its design echoing the rich heritage of Sikh armory.
Fun fact: The Kirpan is traditionally worn curved and tucked into the waistband, allowing the bearer to draw it swiftly in defense of righteousness while keeping it close as a constant reminder of their spiritual duty.
