Description
Agate has long been a favored material among smiths and hunters, prized for its toughness and fine grain that make it well suited for crafting arrowheads across more than three millennia. From ancient battlefields to early American frontiers, agate arrowheads were valued for their ability to hold a sharp edge, especially when hunting small game. This set of six small agate arrowheads measures between about 1¼” and 2″ in length, sizes that strike a balance between precision and penetration. Each piece is hand-shaped from natural agate, so the color patterns and contours vary according to the stone’s unique character,no two are exactly alike. The process of knapping or carving such stone demands patience and skill, as the smith carefully shapes a sharp point and flaked edges from the brittle material. Fun fact: Some cultures believed that the natural banding of agate carried protective properties in battle, so arrowheads were sometimes polished smooth not only to reduce friction but also to showcase these patterns.
