Description
The Claymore was the favored weapon of Highland warriors throughout the late 15th and 16th centuries. Its defining feature is the hilt design, which stands apart from other greatswords of the era. Measuring in the typical longsword range, this blade was capable of delivering broad, sweeping cuts as well as thrusts with considerable force. The guard is notable for its gently sloping quillons ending in quatrefoil shapes, and the high-collared quillon block is reinforced with langets that run alongside the blade’s central fuller.
This version of the Scottish Claymore presents a slimmer, more historically faithful grip, wrapped in leather to provide a firm hold. The pommel is shaped and sized to reflect period examples, balancing the blade and complementing the overall silhouette. Traditionally, these swords were carried slung over the shoulder rather than sheathed at the waist, a practice reflected here by the absence of a scabbard.
