The Warrior Sagaris Axe bears a head forged from carbon steel, shaped by the hammer and anvil to hold up under the strain of battle. This steel, folded and hammered over and over, builds the toughness needed to withstand impact without bending or breaking. Such durability was essential for the cavalry warriors of the Saka and Scythian tribes, who relied on these axes both as weapons and tools on the move.
Its shaft is hewn from solid ash wood, chosen for its resilience and natural shock-absorbing qualities. Ash has long been favored by smiths and warriors alike for crafting shafts that can take the force of a strike and return to shape without splintering. The smooth finish and reinforced butt cap provide added strength where the hand grips and at the base, ensuring the axe endures through vigorous use and handling.
Weighing in at about 950 grams, the balance of this axe is carefully arranged to give a steady, controlled swing. The distribution of weight allows the wielder to strike with accuracy and speed, mirroring the fighting style of mounted warriors who needed both power and precision while charging into battle.
This axe is more than a tool; it’s a piece of history, a direct link to the nomadic horsemen who roamed the Eurasian steppes. Whether used in reenactments or displayed as a testament to ancient craftsmanship, it carries the spirit of those who shaped the past with iron and wood.
Please Note: If additional sharpening is selected it will just be the axe blade of the head that will be sharpened. The pick will not be sharpened.
Fun Fact: The Sagaris axe often featured a pick on the opposite side of the blade, designed to pierce armor or unseat riders,a clever design that made it a favored weapon among steppe cavalry for centuries.
