Description
The Gladius was the trusted sidearm of the Roman legionary from the 3rd century BC through the 3rd century AD, designed specifically for close-quarters combat. These disciplined foot soldiers would first hurl their pila, heavy javelins meant to break enemy shields, before closing the distance with this short sword. This particular Gladius faithfully follows the design of those carried on Roman battlefields, crafted to be used as a working weapon. The blade is forged from 1095 high-carbon steel, featuring a double edge for cutting and a sharp, tapered point optimized for thrusting and stabbing, techniques central to Roman swordsmanship. Built with a full tang construction, the blade offers strength and balance. It arrives unsharpened, allowing the owner to finish the edge as they see fit. The handle is wrapped in brown leather, shaped with finger ridges to provide a secure grip during combat. Both the bolster and pommel are fashioned from antiqued brass, adding a touch of period-appropriate detail. The sword is paired with a wooden scabbard wrapped in matching brown leather and fitted with brass accents, designed to protect the blade when not in use.
