Description
Horatius was a legendary officer of the Roman forces who faced the Etruscans in a desperate stand. According to the tale, he held the narrow bridge alone with his gladius while his comrades tore down the structure behind him, preventing the enemy from crossing the Tiber. When the bridge finally gave way, Horatius plunged into the river and swam to safety, sword and all.
The sword’s design reflects the practical needs of a Roman officer in battle. The handle is crafted from solid wood, reducing the overall weight of the weapon and allowing for quicker, more controlled strikes. Wrapped in leather and shaped with finger grooves, the grip ensures comfort and secure handling during prolonged combat. At the pommel, a rounded shape provides balance and absorbs shock, protecting the blade’s integrity even in intense clashes.
The blade itself is forged from carbon steel, offering a sharp edge ready for action. Accompanying the sword is a scabbard made from wood and covered in hand-stitched leather. The brass chape at the scabbard’s tip is adorned with decorative motifs befitting a Roman officer, combining durability with a touch of distinction.
