Description
The Roman Scutum Shield made by Deepeeka is an accurate replica ornate based off historical research and authentic in its design. The Scutum, or shield, was the main form of body protection of the Roman soldiers. It served the purpose to deflect missiles targeted at the soldiers, as well as protect them from the impact of hand held weapons yielded at them. The shields large size allowed the soldiers to form a “tustudo’ or shield wall that could protect them during an advance. This Roman Republic Shield is constructed from poplar wood is backed in linen. It is fitted with a riveted brass trim and steel shield boss. The face of the shield is hand-painted and its reverse is reinforced with wooden bands and fitted with a horizontal grip of wood.
Please Note: it is common for this item to have patination on the brass shield rim and shield boss – it can be cleaned to a bright sheen with polishing paste and scuff pads.
