Description

Circa 1525

This sword features a straight blade, lightly hollow ground to shed unnecessary weight while preserving its strength,a common practice in the early 1500s to improve handling and speed in battle. Forged from 1095 high carbon steel, the blade undergoes careful tempering to achieve a harmony between hardness for edge retention and enough flexibility to resist breaking under stress. The steel fittings serve both function and durability, while the grip is expertly shaped to fit the hand and wrapped in leather, fastened with leather lacing to ensure a secure hold even when sweat or blood might make the grip slippery.

Measuring a total of 37 inches with a blade just over 31 inches long, this cutlass is designed to be light and quick, weighing less than 2 pounds. Such characteristics made it ideal for swift, precise cuts and thrusts rather than heavy, sweeping strikes. The scabbard accompanying this weapon is crafted for everyday use, protecting the blade while allowing the wearer to move freely.
