Description

These Practical Broadswords draw from authentic medieval designs in our collection but are adapted for re-enactment and stage combat. The hilts reflect historical styles, while the blades are tempered, un-edged, and un-pointed to meet safety standards required by many re-enactment groups. Forged from 1566 high-carbon steel and hardened to approximately 50 HRC, the blades strike a balance between durability and flexibility, resisting brittle fractures while limiting edge chipping during vigorous use. The blades are fullered, grooved along their length,to reduce weight and improve handling without sacrificing strength. Safety is further enhanced by edges ground down to about 1/16” and rounded tips to prevent accidental injury. The tangs are robust with smooth, radiused shoulders and are solidly riveted through the pommel, eliminating any risk of the sword coming apart in use. The grips consist of hardwood cores wrapped in leather for a secure hold. Scabbards are made from glass-filled resin, a material that resists swelling and helps protect the blade from corrosion. Adjustable belt rings allow the wearer to carry the sword vertically or horizontally, and while the scabbard sports a wood-grain finish, many re-enactors personalize it to suit their character.

The Practical Single-Hand Sword is inspired by the Marshall sword, named for a prominent English knight from the latter half of the 12th century. Its design features a classic cruciform hilt and a wheel pommel, with a blade that is ridged and fullered to maintain stiffness while keeping the weight low. Weighing less than two and a half pounds, this sword can be wielded with strength and speed, reducing fatigue during extended use.
