Description
The Roman Pompeii-style Gladius is a weapon steeped in history, wielded by the legions that forged the Roman Empire. The very name “gladiator” is derived from “gladius,” underscoring the close connection between Rome’s soldiers and its famed arena fighters. This sword was a trusted companion in battle, designed for both stabbing and slashing with deadly efficiency.
This particular gladius follows the traditional Pompeii design, characterized by its straight, parallel edges and a sharp triangular point. Such a blade was ideal for thrusting into the gaps of enemy armor or delivering quick, powerful cuts. The handle is crafted from solid wood, shaped with ridges to fit the fingers snugly, and wrapped in black leather to provide a secure grip even in the heat of combat. At the end of the handle, a rounded hardwood pommel capped with brass serves not only as a counterweight for balance but also as a blunt instrument in close quarters.
The sword is accompanied by a wooden scabbard, wrapped in red-brown leather that is hand-stitched for durability. Polished brass fittings adorn the scabbard, allowing it to be suspended from a belt or baldric for easy carry.
