Description
The Windlass Persian Scimitar presented here is crafted with upgraded high carbon steel, specifically 1075, known for its balance of hardness and flexibility. This blade is a faithful recreation of the classic shamshir, a type of saber that has long been favored across the Middle East. The distinct curve of the blade is designed to deliver swift, deep cuts with a slicing motion, making it effective in mounted combat and close quarters alike. Though primarily a cutting weapon, a skilled swordsman can use the sharp point for thrusting attacks, often catching opponents off guard with unexpected angles of strike. The blade is forged and carefully tempered to achieve a resilient edge that can withstand rigorous use.
The hilt features a polished wooden grip shaped for comfort and control, ending in a slightly enlarged pommel that rests securely against the hand, helping to maintain a firm hold during combat maneuvers. The crossguard is fashioned from metal with an antiqued silver finish, providing both protection and a traditional aesthetic. The blade’s tang extends fully into the grip and is secured with dual rivets, ensuring sturdy construction that withstands the stresses of battle.
Accompanying the sword is a scabbard crafted from tough black leather, reinforced with matching antiqued silver metal fittings and equipped with rings for attachment to a belt or baldric, allowing the wearer to carry the weapon conveniently.
Fun fact: The distinctive curve of the Persian scimitar’s blade was not only practical for mounted warriors but also allowed for rapid, flowing strikes that mimicked the swift movement of a falcon swooping down on its prey.
