Description
Circa 1190
This sword is shaped by the spirit of the Arthurian era, reflecting the needs of knights who served their lords with steel and skill. The blade is forged from high carbon steel, carefully heated and quenched to strike a balance between resilience and flexibility, qualities a warrior’s blade must have to withstand the rigors of battle without breaking or bending out of shape. The gold-plated pommel and guard perform practical roles as well as mark the bearer’s rank: the guard protects the hand from an opponent’s blade, while the pommel provides a counterweight to the blade, ensuring better control and balance in the grip. Measuring 33 inches long and just under 2 inches wide, with a thickness of 3/16 inch, the blade matches the proportions typical of a knightly arming sword, suited to both cutting through armor and delivering precise thrusts. This sword is displayed without a scabbard, inviting close examination of its blade and fittings, revealing the marks of the smith’s labor and the weapon’s readiness for combat.

Fun fact: The title “Pendragon,” meaning “chief dragon” or “head dragon,” was first used by Welsh princes and later became linked to Uther Pendragon, King Arthur’s father. The dragon was a powerful emblem among Celtic warriors, symbolizing strength and leadership on and off the battlefield.
