Description
circa 1430
This late medieval cruciform sword carries five crosses etched along its blade, symbols that reflect the deep intertwining of faith and warfare during the period. Such swords are often connected to the figure of Joan of Arc, who bore a similar weapon as she led French forces during the Hundred Years’ War. Raising a sword like this on the battlefield would have served not only as a weapon but as a rallying standard, inspiring courage and steadfastness among soldiers. The blade is forged from fully tempered high carbon steel, a process that hardens the edge while maintaining enough flexibility to withstand the rigors of combat without breaking. The grip is wrapped in leather cord to ensure a firm hold, even amid the sweat and bloodshed of battle. Accompanying the sword is a scabbard designed to shield the blade when at rest, protecting it from damage and corrosion.
