Description

According to Old Norse legend, Aegir, the god of the sea, was a fierce and unforgiving force to those who dared sail the waters of Midgard. When towering waves crashed against their ships, the Vikings understood that Aegir’s presence was near. To calm his wrath, they sometimes offered sacrifices, often slaves, into the churning depths, though such offerings did not always guarantee safe passage. Aegir’s greed for gold and treasure was as vast as the ocean itself, and many a Viking ship met its doom under his watchful gaze. Tales tell of sunken vessels crewed by the Draugr, undead warriors risen from the sea, their weapons forged for battle even beyond death. This battle axe echoes the armaments such spectral fighters might have wielded.

The axe head is forged from carbon steel, toughened and darkened by the fires of the smithy, its surface etched with scenes depicting the Draugr’s downfall at sea. The blade is sharpened with care, honed to bite through both wood and flesh with deadly precision. The handle is crafted from Sheesham wood, known for its durability and resistance to the damp, rough conditions of seafaring life. A lanyard hole is carved into the base of the handle, a practical feature ensuring the axe stays fast in the grip of a warrior amidst crashing waves or fierce combat. On both sides of the handle, the Valknut symbol is engraved,a sign associated with the slain and their passage to the afterlife, while the same symbol is etched into the center of the axe head’s illustration, binding the weapon to the ancient rites of Norse warriors.
