Description

Forged in a small village nestled within the Longquan mountains of China’s Zhejiang province, this sword carries forward a swordmaking tradition spanning over two thousand years. The blade is created using traditional pattern welding techniques, producing a layered steel structure that strikes a balance between strength and flexibility. Most of the blade is hardened to a Rockwell hardness between 40 and 45 HRC, while the section near the guard is tempered to a softer 35 HRC to better absorb impact. The simulated hamon,a visual effect along the blade’s edge,is carefully applied by hand to replicate the tempering patterns seen on classic Japanese swords. Each blade is sharpened until it can cleanly slice through a sheet of paper, following a time-honored test of sharpness and edge geometry.

The guard (tsuba) and pommel are adorned with engravings of Japanese water dragons, creatures long regarded as symbols of strength, protection, and good fortune. These fittings, along with the fuchigashira (the collar next to the tsuba), are cast from brass and given an aged patina to evoke the character of antique armaments. The grip is wrapped in genuine rayskin, offering a textured surface that helps maintain a secure hold, and is bound with traditional cord wrapping. The wooden scabbard is finished in matte black with flecks of gold sand, a subtle tribute to natural beauty and skilled craftsmanship. The sword measures 40-1/2 inches overall, with a 28-3/8 inch blade, and weighs just over 2 pounds.

Fun fact: The Nami Katana with Bushido Design features the “nami” or wave pattern, which not only pays homage to the samurai code of ethics but also symbolizes resilience and the ever-changing flow of life, much like the tempering waves traditionally seen on Japanese blades.
