Description
This main gauche can be stylistically paired with the Musketeer Rapier to create a matched sword and dagger set. Available separately (SKU 500784)
Traditionally worn at the back for a quick left-hand draw, the main gauche served as a companion to the rapier in the duelist’s off-hand, enabling a defensive and offensive two-handed technique. The Musketeer Main Gauche features an unsharpened blade forged from high carbon steel, designed with strategic cut-outs and notches along the blade. These features were intended to catch, parry, or even trap an opponent’s blade during close combat. The guard is crafted from polished steel and bears a simple etched cross motif, reflecting both function and period style. The wooden grip is wrapped with wire to provide a secure hold, crucial when engaging in the swift, precise movements demanded by rapier fencing. The dagger comes with a leather scabbard reinforced with steel fittings, allowing it to be carried safely and accessed quickly.
Fun fact: The term “main gauche” means “left hand” in French, highlighting its role as a defensive tool wielded in the off-hand to protect the fencer’s sword arm during combat.
