Description

This Modern Series wakizashi with bo-hi continues the legacy of blending traditional Japanese swordsmithing with contemporary materials and design. Inspired by the enduring spirit of the samurai, this blade carries a dragon motif that symbolizes strength and wisdom, etched into the steel and handle details.

The wakizashi features a 20-inch blade forged from 1566 steel, differentially tempered to produce a visible hamon line,a hallmark of authentic Japanese blades indicating the hardened edge. This tempering technique ensures a hard cutting edge with a resilient spine, allowing the blade to flex without breaking. The copper habaki (blade collar) and seppa (spacers) secure the blade firmly in the scabbard, reflecting traditional fittings.

The tsuka (handle) is crafted by encapsulating the tang in textured G10, a modern composite material prized for its durability and resistance to moisture. Dual pins secure the handle, preventing loosening during use. Embedded within the handle are silver menuki shaped as dragons, serving both as grip enhancements and symbolic adornments. The saya (scabbard) is finished in textured black with an olive paracord sageo wrapped around a polymer kurikata (knob) and kojiri (end cap), combining modern materials with classic form.

This wakizashi with bo-hi (a groove cut along the blade) reduces weight without compromising strength, improving balance and drawing speed. The bo-hi also serves to stiffen the blade and can produce a distinctive sound when swung, a feature appreciated by practitioners.

Note: The sageo cord on the saya may not be wrapped exactly as shown in images, as wrapping styles can vary.
