Description
This adjustable two-piece shoulder protection is forged from 18 gauge steel, carefully shaped to shield the upper shoulders without hindering movement. The inside is painted to slow rust, but as with all carbon steel armor, the outer surface needs regular oiling to fend off corrosion. The plates are joined by leather straps that can be tightened or loosened to fit various body sizes, and there’s an extra set of straps meant to fasten pauldrons or additional shoulder pieces. Weighing around 2-1/2 pounds, the front plate extends about 6 inches to its tip, striking a practical balance between defense and flexibility.
Fun fact: In medieval times, gorgets,steel collars protecting the throat,were often worn beneath or alongside shoulder armor to guard vital arteries while allowing the wearer to turn their head freely during battle.
