Description
This Martini Henry Brass Muzzle Cover #2 is fashioned after the original fittings found on the Martini-Henry rifles that were standard issue in the late 1800s. Cast from solid brass, it measures 7/8″ in diameter and rises 2-1/8″ tall. This particular model omits the cleaning rod hole commonly seen in other versions, reflecting a straightforward design typical of the period. Brass muzzle covers served a practical purpose: they shielded the rifle’s bore from dust, dirt, and moisture when the weapon was resting, helping to maintain the barrel’s condition and the rifle’s shooting precision over time.
Fun fact: Soldiers often prized these brass covers not only for their protective qualities but also because the metal’s resistance to corrosion made them especially useful in the varied and often harsh climates where Martini-Henry rifles were deployed, from arid deserts to tropical jungles.
