Description

When the M1 Garand rifle first came into service, it was paired with the longer M1905 bayonet, boasting a 16-inch blade built for reach and powerful thrusts. But as the war dragged on and close-quarters combat became more common, the U.S. Military realized a shorter blade offered greater control and quicker handling. By 1942, many of those longer M1905 bayonets were cut down to a 10-inch blade. These shortened blades still carry a fuller,a groove running along the blade’s length, that extends all the way to the tip. Newly made 10-inch bayonets, however, feature a fuller that stops about three inches shy of the point, a subtle shift in forging practice reflecting wartime production changes.

This reproduction bayonet is forged from high carbon steel and finished with a traditional blued surface, both choices that help fend off rust and wear. The grips are molded from hard plastic, a material adopted during wartime to endure tough field conditions without cracking or warping. Weighing in at around 14 ounces, the blade’s balance feels right whether mounted on the rifle or wielded as a fighting knife. The blade’s shape and weight are true to the originals carried by American soldiers during the conflict.

A scabbard designed to fit this bayonet is available separately, crafted to securely hold the blade and protect it when not in use.
