Description
This sturdy belt is crafted from thick, black leather, a material prized by warriors and smiths from the Viking Age through the high Middle Ages. The leather is tanned to a firm yet flexible finish, tough enough to endure daily use while bearing the weight of armor plates, weapons, and gear. At its center sits a solid silver buckle and tongue, hand-shaped and hammered to ensure durability and a secure hold. Twelve Celtic knotwork crosses are stamped or tooled along its length, echoing the intricate patterns found in medieval metalwork and leathercraft, designs often thought to offer protection or convey symbolic meaning.
Measuring 66-1/2″ long and 1-3/8″ wide, this belt would have been wide enough to carry the strain of attaching armor components or pouches, yet narrow enough to allow freedom of movement in battle or daily chores.
Fun fact: Long leather belts like this were more than practical gear, they often told a story. Their decorations could reveal the wearer’s clan, rank, or feats won in combat, making the belt a piece of living history worn at the waist.
