Description
Our Late Roman ‘Ridge’ Helmet is made from 18 gauge steel with leather lined interior for comfort. This is a typical light infantry helmet, probably worn by auxiliaries instead of the legions. The ridge helmet seems to have been based on the similar “ridge” helmets of Rome’s enemy, the Sassanian Perisan empire. The eyes placed on the front of the helmet are reminiscent of the eyebrows on the fronts of the Imperial Gallic Helmets, and appear to be a Roman feature, not seen on Persian helmets.
This Late Roman Intercisa Helm is constructed from 18 gauge steel; the cheekplates and neck guard are hinged and integrated onto the helmet with riveted leather hinges.
The entirety of the inside of the helmet is lined with leather, as are the inside surfaces of the cheekplates and neck guard. Two small brass rings are fitted to cheekplates and these can be used to tie a chin strap in place (cord not included).
