Description

Not every Landsknecht soldier swung the enormous two-handed sword with parrying hooks; many favored a smaller, quicker two-handed sword that struck a balance between reach and agility. This style of sword was commonly carried by officers, including the notable Landsknecht Captain George Frundsberg, who wielded one during his final campaigns well into his eighties. Larger than the usual hand-and-a-half sword and intended specifically for two-handed use, it was crafted to meet the harsh demands of pike-line combat. Once the initial ranks clashed and formations dissolved into chaotic melee, there was little room for delicate technique, this sword was made for heavy chopping blows. Its broad, robust blade could dent and crush armor, proving effective against the partly armored foot soldiers of the time. This period marked a transition from the heavily armored knight to lighter infantry, caught between the decline of full plate armor and the growing threat of firearms. The blade is forged from high carbon steel, providing a good balance of strength and flexibility. The wooden grip is bound in leather for a firm grasp, while the steel crossguard and pommel offer protection and balance. The sword is paired with a sturdy scabbard for carrying.
