Description
This reproduction captures the distinctive shape of the Chupi bayonet, better known as the “Kukri Bayonet.” These bayonets were made in various lengths and styles to meet the demands of Nepalese warriors. Originally, they were designed to mount on Nepalese flintlock muskets as well as their later caplock conversions, and they also fit many British “Brown Bess” muskets. The bayonet usually fits muskets with a muzzle diameter around .900 inches or slightly smaller. The handle features Nepalese inscriptions, a testament to the region’s cultural heritage and the smith’s skill. This piece follows traditional dimensions:
- Overall length: 22-1/2″
- Blade length: 16-1/2″, width: 2-1/4″, thickness: 5/16″
- Weight: about 1 lb 7 oz
Fun fact: The Kukri bayonet’s curved blade takes its shape from the traditional Nepalese kukri knife, a versatile tool and weapon that became a symbol of the Gurkha soldiers’ bravery and fighting spirit.
