These words, deeply etched upon the blade, reflect the solemn vow of the Knights Templar: Nothing for us, Lord, nothing for us but for the glory of thy name. This creed shaped their campaigns and daily lives throughout two centuries of crusading and guarding sacred sites. The Accolade sword, as it is known, would have been a fitting weapon for the Grand Master himself, used in the sacred rite of knighting a worthy squire into the Order.
Forged by the fire and hammer of a skilled smith, the blade is made from high carbon steel,a choice prized for its strength and capacity to hold a sharp edge. The careful shaping and tempering of the metal create a blade balanced for both swift, precise strikes and lasting durability. The pommel carries a cast Templar coin on each side, engraved in Latin and bearing the crosses and symbols that mark the Order’s identity. The grip is wrapped in rich red leather, dyed deep and tightly bound with wire, ensuring a firm hold even amid the chaos of battle.
Alongside the sword lies a wooden scabbard, covered in sturdy dark brown leather,tough enough to shield the blade yet flexible to the touch. A belt styled in period fashion, with solid metal fittings, completes the set, designed to be worn as knights would have borne their weapons into the field.
Fun fact: The Knights Templar used the Accolade sword not only as a weapon of war but also as a sacred tool in their knighting ceremonies, where the touch of the blade symbolized the passing of honor and duty to a new brother of the Order.
