Description
Here’s a chance to work with surplus Windlass blade blanks, shaped after historic patterns once featured in old ACC catalogs. Each blank is hand-forged from high carbon steel, a material prized by smiths for striking a balance between hardness and flexibility. Because these blades were crafted by hand, you may find some surface irregularities, small rust spots, marks, or scratches from years of storage, but these do not affect the blade’s strength or potential. The edges come unsharpened, leaving you free to shape and sharpen the blade according to your needs, whether for reenactment, display, or practical use.
All blade blanks are 3/16″ thick, providing a solid foundation for a range of projects. The Kidney Dagger blade features a tapered full tang, partially threaded to secure the handle firmly. Its back edge may be sharpened along approximately 6″ from the tip, lending itself to a multifunctional cutting profile. The overall length is about 17-3/4″, with a 12″ blade, dimensions that echo the classic dagger forms used across many periods.
Fun fact: Kidney dagger blade blanks take their name from the distinctive kidney-shaped curve near the hilt. This design was originally meant to improve grip comfort and blade balance, qualities prized by warriors who relied on precision and endurance in close quarters combat.
