Description
The Italic H Roman Helmet, known to many as the Niederm?rmter type, was produced in both brass and in iron fitted with brass furniture. Our replica is superb, made by Deepeeka, and is an exact replica of the actual helmet used by Roman legions. The brass helmet, based on the famous example now in the Landesmuseum Bonn, which Robinson regarded as the best Roman helmet to have survived from antiquity. It incorporates many features that are seen on other helmets, both Italic and Gallic in family origin, and may be considered the pinnacle of those helmet families with design features seen from both types of helmets. This helmet design is the last major helmet in the imperial Gallic Italic legionary helmets and dates to around 200AD. After this infantry helmets were not seen again for another 200 years and those bore no resemblance to the classic Roman helms.
This Nidermoermter Roman Helmet is constructed from 18 gauge brass. The hanging handle on the neck guard and the cheek plates are both hinged and articulated. Two rings on the inside of the cheekplates can be used to tie a chinstrap onto (chin strap not included).
