Description

A Warrior’s Transitional Sword
In the era when the rapier rose to prominence among gentlemen and civilians, many soldiers and knights held it in doubt, favoring the tried-and-true cutting swords for their battlefield effectiveness. To bridge the gap between tradition and the changing demands of combat, some warriors fitted broad, cutting blades, reminiscent of the medieval arming sword, onto hilts that reflected newer styles. This blade is a fine example of that marriage: a wide, sturdy steel blade forged to deliver powerful cuts, paired with a slightly “S”-shaped quillon crossguard and a simple finger ring. These features offer some protection to the hand while keeping the grip nimble and responsive in combat. The grip itself is made from wood wrapped in rough leather, ensuring a steady hold even in the heat of battle. The wheel pommel, decorated with modest floral motifs, serves both as a counterweight for balance and a subtle mark of the smith’s craft. This sword favors heavy, decisive cuts rather than the swift thrusts of a pure rapier, and it is accompanied by a well-fitted scabbard.

Note: While this particular sword design does not correspond to a widely documented historical model, it was forged using traditional smithing techniques and materials true to its period. It stands as a testament to the evolving nature of sword design, blending medieval strength with early modern stylistic influences.
