This combat helmet is forged from a solid steel pot, finished with an antiqued patina that suggests years of hard use on the field. The brass nose guard is riveted firmly in place, offering crucial facial protection without blocking the wearer’s view. Encircling the crown, thick leather straps hold a genuine horsehair top knot, a feature commonly worn by mounted warriors to signify rank or unit affiliation, while also creating a distinctive outline against the sky during battle. Along the rim hangs a coif of interlinked steel rings,known as a comail,that defends the neck from slashing attacks but remains flexible enough to allow free movement. Inside, the helmet is fitted with an adjustable leather liner and chin strap, designed to keep the helm securely in place on heads measuring about 26 inches around.
