Description

This dagger’s design, while straightforward, proved its worth time and again in the hands of Swiss mercenaries throughout the 1500s and into the 1600s. The blade is hand-forged from 1065 high carbon steel, prized for its balance of hardness and toughness, and features a full tang running through the grip, lending strength and durability to the weapon. Tempered to a hardness of 52 on the Rockwell scale, the blade retains a keen edge without becoming brittle. Each component is shaped by hand from solid steel, then finished with a dark patina that shields the metal and imparts a weathered, battle-worn look. The double-edged blade is lively and quick, crafted for precise thrusts and cuts. The grip, carved from stained hardwood, fits snugly in the hand, allowing for swift and sure handling. The pommel is decorated with three steel studs, adding balance and a touch of character. The dagger is paired with a genuine leather sheath reinforced with hand-applied steel accents, aged to match the blade’s patina. This is a weapon born of the smith’s forge, made to serve a soldier on the move.

Fun fact: The Holbein dagger takes its name from Hans Holbein the Younger, a Renaissance painter who portrayed Swiss mercenaries carrying this style of dagger in his portraits, making it a lasting symbol of the mercenary’s deadly skill and readiness.
