Description
Due to its impressive length and reach, the Naginata was a favored weapon among samurai and ashigaru foot soldiers for combating cavalry during Japan’s Warring States Period, before firearms became widespread. This particular Naginata measures a substantial 54 inches overall, with a 25-inch blade that balances well despite its size, weighing just around 4 pounds. The blade is forged from high carbon steel, carefully heat-treated to achieve a resilient edge capable of withstanding the rigors of battle. Its surface bears an antique finish, lending it the appearance of a weapon seasoned by countless skirmishes.
The blade features two fullers, long grooves running along the flat of the blade, one measuring 14.5 inches and the other 11.5 inches. These fullers reduce weight without sacrificing strength, allowing for swift, precise movements on the battlefield. The handle, wrapped in durable nylon cord over wood, provides a secure grip necessary for the sweeping strikes characteristic of naginata combat. Included is a black leather sheath with a snap fastener, offering practical protection and ease of carry.
