Description

Since 1943, these Kukris have been forged by a single government contractor, Windlass Steelcrafts®. This is the original military issue blade, hand-forged from high carbon steel to meet strict specifications. Each Kukri comes with its regulation sheath, built tough for the demands of outdoor tasks requiring dependable chopping and cutting.

The Kukri’s fame was hammered out on the battlefield, wielded with skill by the Nepalese Gurkhas during the Siege of Delhi in 1857. It served relentlessly in the trenches of World War I, carved its way through the dense jungles of New Guinea in World War II, and earned distinction in the Falkland Islands conflict. The blade is a stout 1/4″ thick, featuring deep fullers that lighten the blade without weakening it, and the traditional religious notch near the handle known as the “cho.” This notch is more than ornamentation; it carries spiritual meaning and is said to keep blood from running onto the wooden handle.

The blade is crafted to hold a sharp edge, crucial for both combat and utility. It’s mounted on a scale tang, secured beneath a native hardwood handle shaped for a firm, comfortable grip. The metal butt plate adds balance and shields the handle’s end. This Kukri is genuine military issue for the Gurkha Regiments in India, and notably, it includes a copy of the government contract, ordinance drawing, and specification sheet, offering a rare look into its official manufacture.

Alongside the main blade, the set includes accessory knives traditionally used for smaller cutting tasks and utility work. Made by Windlass Steelcrafts, it arrives factory-sharp, ready for service.

Fun fact: The Kukri’s inward curve isn’t just for show,it’s designed to deliver powerful chopping blows while allowing the user to draw the blade swiftly from its sheath, a clever feature that has helped forge the Gurkhas’ fearless reputation worldwide.
