By the latter part of the 14th century, this style of helmet was a familiar sight on battlefields across Europe. Known among the English as the “pig faced” bascinet for its elongated, pointed visor, and called the “Houndskull” by the Germans due to its muzzle-like shape, this helmet was crafted to improve facial protection while allowing better vision and breathability. Forged from 19 gauge steel, its surface bears a hand-applied antiqued finish that suggests the marks of many campaigns. Inside, an adjustable leather liner and chin strap help keep the helmet firmly in place during the heat of combat. The circumference measures approximately 26 inches, fitting most adult warriors of the period.

Fun fact: The Great Bascinet Combat Helmet evolved from earlier bascinets by extending the visor into a pointed snout, which helped to deflect blows from swords and arrows, making it a favored choice among knights and men-at-arms in the turbulent 14th century.
