Here we have a genuine example of the ring-hilt sword, a design rooted firmly in the Viking Age. The ring guard,an unusual feature whose exact purpose still puzzles many,forms a loop encircling the grip, providing some hand protection while offering a distinctive way to hold the weapon. The blade is forged from tempered high carbon steel, a material chosen for its ability to hold a sharp edge while withstanding the rigors of battle.
