When the war began, German soldiers typically wore the M35 helmet, though older types like the M16 and M18 were still seen among the ranks. By 1942, the demands of wartime production and the need to conserve steel led to the introduction of the M42 helmet. The most striking modification was the removal of the rolled edge that defined the M35’s shell, leaving a raw, slightly flared rim around the helmet’s skirt. This change simplified the stamping process and reduced material usage, all while preserving the helmet’s essential protective qualities.
This reproduction closely follows those design choices, featuring a dark green matte finish, along with a leather adjustable liner and chin strap that replicate the original fit and function. Size S/M (56).
Fun fact: The M42 helmet’s unrolled edge made it easier for soldiers to apply camouflage paint directly onto the rim, enhancing concealment without risking damage to a rolled lip.
