Description
This German Mauser bayonet frog is fashioned from sturdy top-grain leather, dyed a deep black and stitched with waxed linen thread to withstand the rigors of field use. It’s modeled after the original K98 frog but scaled larger to fit the wider Butcher Blade and Sawback bayonets, blades whose original leather frogs have become scarce relics. The design is straightforward and functional, reflecting the practical needs of German soldiers who required a secure hold on belts up to 2″ wide, while still allowing swift access to their bayonets when the situation demanded.
Fun fact: The sawback bayonet’s serrated edge was intended not only for combat but also to saw through wood and horse tack, and its frog needed to be tough enough to hold the blade steady without slowing the soldier’s quick draw amid the chaos of battle.
