Description
These pauldrons form a crucial part of the Cursed Black Knight armor ensemble. Forged from 16-gauge steel, they bear a dark iron finish that not only offers a foreboding appearance but also solid defense against blows. The edges and details are highlighted with pure brass, shaped into scalloped patterns that reflect the craftsmanship of plate armorers from the late medieval period. Articulation is carefully designed into the plates, allowing for a range of motion essential to the wearer’s combat effectiveness without sacrificing protection.
Hanging from each pauldron is a rondel, or besague, a small circular guard that shields the vulnerable underarm area,a spot often targeted in battle. These rondels move independently, providing coverage while maintaining flexibility. The pauldrons are secured by adjustable leather straps, which would have been typical in historical armor to ensure a snug fit tailored to the wearer’s build.
Such armor components were often worn by knights and men-at-arms who needed to balance mobility with defense on the battlefield. The combination of steel and brass also served a dual purpose: brass not only reinforced the edges but added a decorative element that indicated status or allegiance.
