This Fully Functional Spangenhelm Steel Helmet is crafted from 20-gauge steel, offering a sturdy yet relatively lightweight protection typical of early medieval European warriors. The helmet’s design features a rounded skull cap reinforced by steel strips,known as the “spangen” framework,that hold together several steel plates, providing both strength and flexibility in battle. Its full face mask includes narrow eye slits to shield the wearer’s eyes from incoming arrows and blades, while the breathing holes in the face guard allow for ventilation, helping keep the wearer cooler during the rigors of combat or training. Inside, a leather liner cushions the head, absorbing shock and improving comfort during prolonged wear. This type of helmet was favored by Germanic and Viking warriors for its balance of protection and visibility.
