Description
The Fisted War Hammer made its appearance across Europe in the 15th century, born out of the need to counter the rise of heavy plate armor on the battlefield. This weapon departs from the simple hammer by pairing a broad, flat hammerhead with a sharp 5-inch spike, giving the fighter the ability to both crush and pierce through armor. The head is forged from solid steel, carefully balanced to deliver force without sacrificing durability. Its shaft is hewn from sturdy hardwood, stained a deep brown to protect the wood and provide a firm grip that holds steady even in the heat of battle. At the base, a steel cup and reinforcing rings strengthen the end of the shaft, and also serve as practical points to hang the hammer from a saddle or secure it with a wrist strap. The whole weapon carries a worn, aged finish, as if it has borne the weight of many fierce clashes.
Fun fact: The name “Fisted” comes from how the hammer’s head fits tightly into the wielder’s fist, allowing for powerful, precise blows capable of denting or piercing even the toughest armor of the time.
