Description
This dagger takes its form from the classic Fairbairn-Sykes design, a favored weapon among commandos in World War II, used by both U.S. and British Commonwealth forces. The blade is forged from high carbon steel, hand-shaped and heat-treated to endure the rigors of close-quarters combat. Its deep blue finish serves a purpose beyond appearance, offering resistance to rust and wear in damp or harsh environments. The handle is fashioned from blackened metal, fitted with ferrules to ensure a firm grip even when hands are wet or slick with sweat.
The blade comes sharpened and is sheathed in top-grain black leather, reinforced at the tip with a blued steel guard to shield both blade and bearer. The sheath is equipped with 2-1/2″ belt loop slots for convenient carrying, while a black elastic retention strap holds the dagger securely in place. Four sewn tabs allow the sheath to be fastened firmly to a uniform or gear, meeting the practical demands of soldiers on the move.
At just over 11 ounces, this dagger balances well in the hand, enabling swift and precise strikes, qualities essential for the covert operations it was designed to serve.
Fun fact: The Fairbairn-Sykes Combat Dagger was designed by two former Shanghai police officers, William Fairbairn and Eric Sykes, who drew on their experience in close-quarters fighting to craft a weapon meant for silent and deadly surprise attacks.
