Description

Circa 1350

This sword is a faithful representation of the weapons carried by English warriors in the mid-14th century, during an era when the clash of arms against French foes and internal strife required blades that could contend with both mail and the rising presence of plate armor. The blade is forged from tempered 1095 high carbon steel, chosen for its ability to hold a sharp edge while maintaining enough toughness to absorb the shocks of battle. Its dimensions,34 inches in blade length, just over 2 inches wide, and about 3/16 inch thick, give it the reach and cutting power needed on the battlefield. The grip features a wooden core wrapped tightly with flat leather lacing, designed to provide a firm hold for two-handed use, essential for controlling the sword’s weight and delivering precise strikes amid the chaos. All fittings are made of steel, built to withstand the harsh conditions of combat. The accompanying scabbard protects the blade and allows the bearer to carry it securely.

  • Overall Length: 42-1/2″
  • Blade Length: 34″, Width: 2-3/16″, Thickness: 3/16″
  • Weight: 3 lbs 2 oz

Fun Fact: The English longsword was often used with a technique called the “half-sword,” where the fighter would grasp the blade midway to guide precise thrusts aimed at the gaps in an opponent’s armor.
